craft fun...desert style!

we have been filling these last couple of weeks of school with some fun craft time.  last week we made our own sand dunes!

we just took some crayola chalk and grated it...

then we added a little bit of salt and added it to our chalk and then poured it into a clear jar.  to make the fun swirls, we just took a thin paint brush and pulled it up and down through our colors!

don't you love kenzie's face in this?!  she is her daddy made over...

we found this craft in a fun book that we have called Around the World Art & Activities, and in it we read about how sand dunes are always moving and changing, and how that wind blows grains of sand up and over the tops of the dunes and down the other side...honestly, the sand dunes in the book looked a lot better than ours turned out, but the girls loved theirs, so that's really all that matters!

we finished our desert craft by watching one of our favorite "desert" movies...aladdin!  it was a fun day!  now just trying to make it through these last seven days of school...

  1. If your kids are like mine, they loved this. I have to get a bit craftier with our activities. May steal this :)
