my mom's a bad influence.

really.  my mom is a terrible influence.  mainly in her love for everything homey.  it has turned me into a total homemaker.  isn't she terrible?  no, really, this year she totally influenced me to do something that i've always thought is crazy to do...specifically, decorate my entire home in fall decor in the second week of august.  i know.  it's crazy.  but she decorated her home early {although she had a good excuse for decorating hers early}, and then the same day that i saw her home, she and i went to hobby lobby for some stuff and, well, it was over.  i was hooked.  so here is some of my fall decor...

my table centerpiece was really important to me...mainly because it's the first thing that you see when you walk into my house from my garage.  it's also one of those things that i NEVER can find just the right thing for...but this year i'm really pleased with my centerpiece!  i did do the "in-crowd" thing and went with a burlap table runner.  i tried to stay off of pinterest, mainly because i don't want my house to look like everyone else's.  i tried to come up with my own ideas, so that my house would be different {this can also be particularly hard if you have three sisters and a mom who all love the same type of decor...we all are surprised to often go to one another's homes and say, "wow; i have that very same _____ (you fill in the blanks here)}.  it happens often, so i tried to do things that would be original to my home.  another thing i liked about this centerpiece is that it's not difficult to pick up off of my table...we eat dinner at it almost every night of the week, and so i didn't want anything that was heavy or hard to put back together after i cleared off the dinner dishes.

i bought the basket, put fall garland in it, and centered this little scarecrow in the middle of it, and i think it turned out reallly simple but really cute! :)

the rest of my kitchen is very basic...i added this little fall wreath to my kitchen gallery wall...

these guys are on the corner of my kitchen countertops...

i added these little people and this cute pumpkin {that mom got all of the sisters for christmas in august...more details coming soon!} to my open cabinets in my kitchen.  i also put candy corn and this cute little pumpkin in a dollar store vase, and that completed my kitchen fall decor!

in the den i changed out my flowers beside my "family picture" to more fall-ish flowers, and put fall colored ribbon around a couple of baskets to give them a fall feel...

on the table that holds my record player i put a burnt orange table runner, put out my halloween printable, wrapped my vase with fall ribbon, and put out some fall "vegetables" {just about the only vegetables you will find in my home}...

i also have a couple scarecrows at random places in my den...

this really was a more "original" idea...at christmas you can find garland all over stores wrapped with lights, so i thought it would be pretty to do that with my fall garland.  i was really pleased with how this turned out, and thought it was fun to have something that is original to my home :)...

and a view with the lights off...

so overall, even though i know it is entirely too early to have my home decorated for fall, i'm loving all my decor.  and as i type this right now, the scent of crisp fall leaves fills my home {one of my favorite wax warmers by better homes and gardens}.

so thanks, mom...now my kids and husband have to suffer through an extra month of fall, one of the most wonderful seasons of the year.

isn't she a terrible influence?

  1. love this idea! Fall is my favorite of seasons yet you would never know it b/c of my lack of decor! I miss you guys & think of you all often. :)
